We completed pumpkin exploration centers on Monday this week! The students measured the weight, height, and circumference of the pumpkin. They learned that it floats when placed in water, which many were surprised by! They also got to take out and count the seeds!
You may have heard your child come home from school the last two days talking about the fun S.T.E.M. projects we have been completing. If you weren't aware, S.T.E.M. stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. These S.T.E.M. activities help students use real world problem solving and critical thinking skills to design and build projects that achieve a certain goal. They plan, create, test, and improve, and then re-test their designs. The kids LOVE these activities and are SO engaged during them. The two projects we have completed so far were a challenge to see who could build the tallest tower out of toothpicks and candy corn and who could build the bridge that would hold the most blocks using cups, string, and tape. Cole's grandma came to our room today to read to us! She read 2 stories, Mr. Putter and Tabby Run the Race and Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend. It was fun! Our class did not get time on Friday as we usually do, so we used our flashlights today to track as we read! The kids had so much fun reading aloud to practice fluency while using these finger flashlights I bought. Our class loves practicing our spelling words with this engaging activity! I hope you don't get dizzy watching (ha). I was trying to be sure I got everyone in the video. We had our 2nd mystery reader yesterday, Seth's mom, Mrs. Sider! She read us two fun Halloween themed stories; Where's My Mummy? and Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins. They really enjoyed both stories, and the favorite was Where's My Mummy? Thank you again for coming to read to our class Mrs. Sider!
We had our first mystery reader of the year today! Gianna's mom came to read us two funny stories, Thump, Quack Moo and Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late. Thank you Mrs. Gentile for reading to us today. Jazzy enjoyed her "VIP Seating," and Sophie did a GREAT job building a tall tower out of glue sticks as the "minute to win it" winner from our class.
